Investments in Education Key in Supporting Youth Navigate Dynamic World: PM Abiy

Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Addressing the first General Assembly of Organization of Educational Cooperation (OEC) today, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized that investments in education are key in supporting youth navigate a dynamic world.

In his statement to the assembly, Abiy noted that investment in education is crucial to change the world for the better.

“By investing in education, we equip our youth with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate an ever-changing world.”

According to him, Ethiopia will play its part to achieve the objectives of the Organization of Educational Cooperation (OEC).

The PM further shared efforts on education being made by Ethiopia in ensuring inclusivity.

“In Ethiopia’s efforts towards cultivating inclusivity in education provision, we are undertaking activities to ensure that the gender gap is closed and that students with special needs are considered.”

Additionally, expanding facilities and educational services for pastoral and semi-pastoral areas, providing access to non-formal education and training programs for adults, and ensuring that tertiary education is conducive for persons with disabilities are some of the key deliverables in Ethiopia, the premier added.

Moreover, he stated that Ethiopia has made technology accessible to millions of citizens by working with attention, especially in the field of information communication technology.

Recall that the international headquarters of the organization of OEC was officially inaugurated in Addis Ababa on May 2023.

OEC is a newly established intergovernmental organization, and its member mainly come from the global south with the objective of strengthening South-South cooperation and partnership without replacing North-South cooperation that still remains important.
