Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Finance State Minister Semerita Sewasew and Chinese Embassy Minister Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs Yang Yihang have held talks on various issues.
The discussion about the economic development cooperation and development assistance between the two countries was fruitful.
Among the main issues discussed were the memorandums of understanding signed on the future development cooperation at the 3rd Belt and Road Forum recently held in Beijing, China.
Recall that many important experiences were shared during the visit of an Ethiopian delegation led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Regarding development assistance, the Chinese government will provide emergency food aid worth 4.1 million USD, Minister Counsellor Yang said.
Out of the 21 million USD pledged assistance by the Chinese government, 3 million USD worth spare parts for Addis Ababa Light Rail and Railway Corporation have arrived, and purchase of the remaining spare parts would be made, he added.
Furthermore, the previous economic cooperation of the two countries is transformed into All Weather Relation that will allow Chinese companies to invest more in Ethiopia, and enable the countries to fight and stand together in international diplomatic forums on issues that affect their interests.
Finally, Ethiopia has expressed interest in trading in Chinese RMB.
The discussion ended with the agreement that there is a desire to continue the loan payment extension discussion and end it within a short time.
