7.3 Million People Receive Humanitarian Relief in Three Months

Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Ethiopia’s Disaster Risk Management Commission disclosed that the government has distributed humanitarian assistance to 7.3 million people across the country over the past three months.

Speaking to journalists today, Commissioner Shiferaw Telekemariam said large amount of the humanitarian assistance was delivered to people in conflict affected areas such as Tigray, Afar and Amhara.

The assistance has also been delivered to people affected by the unprecedented climate change in seven region of the country, he added.

According to him, the government has taken the lion’s share of the humanitarian aid in two-rounds.

The commissioner also said that the magnitude of the climate induced impact alone affected over one million people, resulting displacement of 500,000 people.

A third-round of humanitarian relief assistance is also required for the needy people already identified with resources both from the government and international aid agencies.

As a result of humanitarian assistance delivered thus far, the nation was able rescue the lives of millions, he indicated.

Shiferaw said that the government of Ethiopia has continued to exert maximum efforts to avert the humanitarian crisis.

He added the government is also working to create national humanitarian capacity in order to mobilize resources and respond to emergency relief assistance by its own resources.
