Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to fully implementing the pledges declared during the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, Switzerland.

Speaking at the IGAD Support Forum meeting, on the margins of the Global Refugee Forum, Demeke said Ethiopia has made substantial new pledges and commits to supporting the regional response for displacement and refugees.

He also praised IGAD for its contributions in humanitarian support and sustainable development.

Executive Secretary of IGAD, Workneh Gebeyehu in his opening remark noted the critical need for technical support and financial resources to implement the pledges.

He urged all stakeholders to keep displaced population on their political and development agenda.

Director General of Refugees and Returnees Affairs, Teyiba Hassan, said Ethiopia has made significant strides in providing essential documents for refugees and asylum seekers.
