Africa-Press – Ethiopia. ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo expressed the profound commitment to its work in Ethiopia, underscoring the importance of the collaborative efforts between the organization and the country.
State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mesganu Arga held constructive discussions with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert F. Houngbo.
The meeting took place during the State Minister’s visit to Geneva.
On the occasion, the Director-General congratulated on the commendable agreements Ethiopia has concluded with various countries, recognizing the significance of these achievements in promoting decent work and labor rights.
He also expressed the ILO’s profound commitment to its work in Ethiopia, underscoring the importance of the collaborative efforts between the organization and the country.
Ambassador Mesganu for his part commenced the meeting by expressing Ethiopia’s deep appreciation for the ILO, emphasizing its status as one of the most critical institutions in Ethiopia’s bilateral engagements.
He underscored the significance of the ILO’s role in promoting decent work and workers’ rights.
He also briefed the DG on the celebration of Ethiopia’s 100th anniversary of ILO.
The milestone was marked by a National Labor Conference held in Addis Ababa in December 2023. The conference was a collaborative effort between the ILO and Tripartite stakeholders of Ethiopia, according to Ethiopian Permanent Mission Geneva.
