Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The Indian festival of colors, Holi, serves as a powerful means of fostering cultural cooperation and strengthening people-to-people ties between Ethiopia and India, according to Anil Kumar Rai, India’s Ambassador to Ethiopia.
The Holi festival was celebrated today at the Indian Embassy in Addis Ababa.
During the event, Ambassador Rai emphasized that Holi, a festival of colors, joy, and unity, heralds the arrival of spring and spreads happiness while reinforcing bonds and togetherness.
He explained that Holi, celebrated during the spring season, symbolizes new life in nature, with flowers blooming and agricultural fields turning green. It marks a season of good health and the beginning of the new cropping cycle.
The Ambassador also emphasized that Holi serves as a bridge for cultural cooperation between Ethiopia and India, offering a unique opportunity for the people of both nations to connect.
Culture festivals are one of the vital platforms in promoting people to people contacts; and Holi is the one, the ambassador stressed.
The ambassador explained that “these kinds of celebrations are very important to bond the society, bring together the people of Ethiopia with the people of India. We have roughly 3000 Indians who are also currently staying in Ethiopia. And, this particular occasion (Holi festival) gives us opportunity to renew our contacts.”
Ethiopia and India have longstanding people to people ties; and currently, the two countries have been enjoying good cultural exchanges through various modalities interactions such as scholarship of long-term education and short term trainings as well as cultural delegations participating in festivals of each other’s culture, he emphasized.
The ambassador stated that “recently, Ethiopian delegation of 21 members for world’s largest cultural festival which is celebrated in India named Kumbh Mela festival. They had 22 days of prescience in India and made performance, reportedly that Ethiopia performed best among countries participated in that festival. This showcases how we are enjoying each other’s culture.”
