Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Lieutenant General Yilma Merdasa, Board Chairman of the Ethiopian Airlines Group, confirmed that Ethiopian Airlines will persist in bolstering its international reputation and domestic flight operations.
Today, Ethiopian Airlines Group inaugurated its airport project at Yabelo, the Southern part of Oromia Regional State, alongside a new, thrice-weekly passenger service to the airport.
The grand event has been celebrated in a colourful event, in the presence of Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, regional and federal high government officials, the airlines’ executives, and the local community.
During the inauguration, Lieutenant General Yilma Merdasa, who is also the Commander of the Ethiopian Air Force, remarked that the new airport marks a significant milestone for the airline and the residents of Yabelo and its surroundings.
He further stated that the new route will generate new opportunities for trade, tourism, and investment in the area.
Ethiopian Airlines is currently concentrating on three strategic priorities to uphold the excellence it has been recognized for over the years, according to Lieutenant General Yilma.
Firstly, the airline is providing training to young Ethiopians in aviation to cultivate a skilled workforce for Ethiopia, Africa, and the global community. Secondly, it is expanding its extensive infrastructure, and thirdly, it will continue to modernize and expand its fleet of aircraft.
The board chairman also pointed out that by offering three flights weekly to Yabelo, the airline is broadening its domestic flight network.
He further indicated that the airline is planning to construct a new, large airport in Bishoftu to further enhance its international competitiveness, in addition to expanding domestic routes.
According to Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, the new flight to Yabelo is a crucial catalyst for development that will strengthen community connections, broaden trade, and stimulate investment.
The CEO also mentioned that the airline has allocated over 30 aircraft for domestic routes, serving various cities throughout the nation.
He added that the construction of new passenger terminals and the expansion of existing ones will remain a priority.
