Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s leading carrier, announced today that it has earned 4.4 billion US dollars in revenue during the first six months of the Ethiopian fiscal year, marking a 14 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Briefing the media earlier today, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said the strong performance reflects sustained growth across passenger services, cargo operations and fleet expansion.
According to the CEO, the airline transported 10.64 million passengers on international and domestic routes during the reporting period.
Ethiopian Airlines currently serves 145 international destinations, including three newly launched routes.
Mesfin noted that the airline’s fleet has expanded to 170 aircraft, including private jets, further consolidating its position as Africa’s largest aviation group.
In cargo operations, the carrier transported 451,000 tons of cargo, underscoring its expanding role in regional and global logistics networks.
The CEO also disclosed that Ethiopian Airlines generated 2.5 million USD in revenue from the sale of spare parts, while investing 260 million Birr in voluntary and community development initiatives.
On infrastructure development, Mesfin highlighted the progress of the Bishoftu International Airport project, which was recently inaugurated.
He said construction is advancing rapidly and is expected to be completed by January next year.
Ethiopian Airlines has continued to strengthen its operational capacity and infrastructure as part of its long-term growth strategy, reinforcing its leadership in Africa’s aviation sector.
