Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Emmanuel Amunike, has explained why Nigeria made five changes against the Black Stars of Ghana during both teams\u2019 2022 FIFA World Cup second leg playoff in Abuja earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Recall that Frank Onyeka, Ademola Lookman, Calvin Bassey, Etebo and Emmanuel Dennis all started for Nigeria against Ghana in the second leg in Abuja.<\/p>\n

The five players did not start the first leg 0-0 draw in Kumasi last week.<\/p>\n

However, Amunike and his former colleagues\u2019 decision did not produce a better result as the Super Eagles drew 1-1 against Ghana at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja and failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by away goal rule.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Brila.net, Amunike said: \u201cFootball is a team game and after the first leg, you have to review the performance of some players and make changes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the case of Emmanuel Dennis and others that started the game, we wanted to have a strong attack and push the team forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are also part of the team and it was important to look in their direction and see what they can bring to the team and it was unfortunate, things went that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, had on Thursday sacked Amunike, Austin Eguavoen along with every member of the Super Eagles technical coaching crew.<\/p>\n
