Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>Astatement released today by African Union said that the Chairperson of theAfrican Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat is pleased to announce the launchin South Africa of the first direct talks between the Government of Ethiopiaand the Tigray People\u2019s Liberation Front (TPLF.)<\/p>\n

The Talks are facilitated byOlusegun Obasanjo, the AU High Representative for the Horn of Africa and formerPresident of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, along with former President UhuruKenyatta of the Republic of Kenya; and former Deputy President Dr PhumzileMlambo-Ngcuka of the Republic of South Africa.<\/p>\n

Representatives of theIntergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the United Nations (UN) andthe Government of the United States of America (USA) are participating asobservers to the AU-led peace process, it was indicated.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the Chairpersonexpresses his profound appreciation to President Cyril Ramaphosa and theGovernment of South Africa graciously for accepting to host the talks in the spirit of pan-African solidarity tofind African solutions to African problems.<\/p>\n

The Chairperson reiterates theAU\u2019s continued commitment to support the Parties in an Ethiopian-owned andAU-led process to silence the guns towards a united, stable, peaceful andresilient Ethiopia.<\/p>\n
