Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>Ethiopian Ambassador to Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire, Shitaye Minale and Ambassador of Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire to Ethiopia held a discussion on the bilateral relations of the two brotherly countries.<\/p>\n

During their discussion, Ambassador Shitaye expressed her gratitude to the Government of Cote d\u2019Ivoire for its unreserved support in the UN Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n

As an elected member of the UN Human Rights Council since January 2021, Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire has twice objected to the Council\u2019s resolution against Ethiopia during its 33rd and 51st sessions in Geneva in 2021 and 2022, respectively. By countering the resolution, Cote d\u2019Ivoire has shown its robust solidarity with Ethiopia in front of the international community.<\/p>\n

She also said that the Government of Ethiopia attaches great importance to its partnership with the Republic of Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire and desires to continue further consolidating the ties, especially on key bilateral, regional, and global matters.<\/p>\n

The meeting between the Heads of States of the two countries in Abidjan last week, she added, also proved the solid partnership between the countries.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Ambassador Shitaye briefed Ambassador Maes and his colleagues on the current situation in Ethiopia, particularly on the recent Cessation of Hostilities agreement reached between the Government and the TPLF.<\/p>\n

She stressed that the agreement was the result of the Government\u2019s long-held commitment to ensure lasting peace and stability in the country.<\/p>\n

She further added that the Government remains committed to the full implementation of the agreement.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Shitaye elaborated that the agreement further exhibited the ability of Africans to solve their own problems by themselves and in their own way.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Maes Ennio, on his part, expressed his confidence that the agreement will bring about long lasting peace to Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

He also reiterated his country\u2019s interest in taking bilateral relations to new heights expressing his commitment not only to solidify the already firm ties but also to broaden the bilateral relations in new areas.<\/p>\n

In order to deliberate at length and closely follow up on all bilateral issues, the two embassies have set up a regular biweekly joint session and laid down a joint plan of action.<\/p>\n

Ethiopia and Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire established their formal diplomatic relations in 1966 with the exchange of ambassadors.<\/p>\n

Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire was also among the first African countries to establish formal diplomatic relations with Ethiopia soon after its independence.<\/p>\n
