Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>Japan has granted close to 25.4 million USD in aid for the development of safe water supplies in Oromia and Amhara regions, and fertilizer provision in the country today.<\/p>\n

Of the total amount, over 20 million USD is allotted for the development of safe water supplies in the regions, and the remaining sum for fertilizer provision to farmers.<\/p>\n

Japan\u2019s Ambassador to Ethiopia Ito Takako and Finance State Minister Semereta Sewasew signed the three exchanges of note for the grant projects.<\/p>\n

During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Ito Takako said all these grant aid projects will assist socio-economic development in Ethiopia, bringing health and wellbeing to people across the country and strengthening ties between the countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis assistance for the provision of fertilizer for farmers in Ethiopia is one of Japan\u2019s responses to help the global South in times of global food crisis,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Finance State Minister Semereta Sewasew said on her part that the project agreements signed with the Government of Japan are crucial for improving access to safe drinking water and supporting the agriculture sector.<\/p>\n

The impact of the pandemic, coupled with internal conflict and global tension and economic turmoil makes this timely and much needed support critical as some areas are highly hit by internal conflict and recurring drought which considerably affected their livelihood, she added.<\/p>\n

It is to be recalled that Japan, at the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development held last August in Tunis, confirmed its commitment to support achieving food security in African countries.<\/p>\n
