Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>Some Sri Lankans residing in Ethiopia said that the Easter celebration in Ethiopia is unique in terms of bringing families together.<\/p>\n

The Sri Lankans who also celebrated the dawn of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year of 2023 in Addis Ababa today said Ethiopian Easter has been a very important day for them too as they have here for over a decade.<\/p>\n

Among the residents, Surein Peiris said we have gathered here as one family celebrating the Sri Lankan New Year and it almost coincides with Ethiopian Easter.<\/p>\n

Sri Lanka and Ethiopia have very rich cultural heritages, he noted, adding that is something we have been observing when we are in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe experience I have in celebrating a national festival or a religious festival in Ethiopia is very unique. We see how people celebrate this religious event in full flow. We see a lot of animals on the road and you’re getting ready for the fanfare where you are after long days of fasting. You’re looking forward to celebrating Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. So, I feel that we are also part of the Ethiopian culture, and we Sri Lankans really feel that this is our country, away from home,\u201d Peiris said.<\/p>\n

Dilan Malanshanku on his part said \u201cwhen I came to Ethiopia in 2015, for me it was really a little bit different experience because what I heard about Ethiopia and what I see in Ethiopia is totally opposite. \u201d<\/p>\n

According to him, in the past eight years he has learned many things about the Ethiopian people, language, culture as well as hospitality. Ethiopia is a multi-cultural country that inspires people to come to the nation.<\/p>\n

K.R.W. Bandara said on his part Ethiopia has a lot of holidays that are different from other countries, and the festivals and holidays in Ethiopia are more of communal nature.<\/p>\n

\u201cEaster is about unity, understanding and supporting human beings. These three concepts about Easter are 100 percent happening in Ethiopia. I want to wish for the country and the people prosperous Easter,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Ethiopian Easter is one of the most longstanding festivals of followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.<\/p>\n
