{"id":19888,"date":"2023-04-20T12:05:30","date_gmt":"2023-04-20T12:05:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ethiopia\/all-news\/finance-minister-ahmed-shide-confers-with-assistant-secretary-of-french-ministry-of-economy-william-roos"},"modified":"2023-04-20T12:46:17","modified_gmt":"2023-04-20T12:46:17","slug":"finance-minister-ahmed-shide-confers-with-assistant-secretary-of-french-ministry-of-economy-william-roos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ethiopia\/all-news\/finance-minister-ahmed-shide-confers-with-assistant-secretary-of-french-ministry-of-economy-william-roos","title":{"rendered":"Finance Minister Ahmed Shide Confers with Assistant Secretary of French Ministry of Economy William Roos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>Finance Minister, Ahmed Shide met with William Roos of France, who is Assistant Secretary Multilateral at the Ministry of Economy and Co-Chair of the Official Creditors Committee (OCC) for Ethiopia, under the G20\u2019s Common Framework for Debt Treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting provided an opportunity for the parties to review the progress of several agreements reached between President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during their meetings in February this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ministry of Finance, the two parties discussed the progress of the OCC\u2019s work and the steps to accelerate Ethiopia\u2019s debt treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The parties also discussed the state of several bilateral strategic investments by French companies in the country including in infrastructure, communication, transport and agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>It is to be recalled that subsequent to Ethiopia\u2019s request for debt treatment and the establishment of the Official Creditors\u2019 Committee (OCC), France and China successfully established the Creditors\u2019 Committee for Ethiopia, which so far convened five meetings to discuss the request and provide Ethiopia the necessary financing assurance.<\/p>\n<p>Ross, in his capacity as the Co-Chair of the Paris Club and the Co-Chair of the OCC for Ethiopia, briefed the Minister on the current state of the discussion and the excellent working dynamics of the OCC and the commitment shown by all creditors to deliver a financing assurance in line with the broader IMF program.<\/p>\n<p>Most importantly, Ross also highlighted the success of Creditor Committees that completed debt treatment requests for Chad and Zambia and assured the minister of the dedication of the Paris Club to the debt treatment request of Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister reiterated the longstanding and close bilateral relationship between the two countries, which is further strengthened by France\u2019s commitment to the development aspirations of Ethiopia and Ethiopians.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed highlighted the success of several French companies that invested in Ethiopia and the commitment of the Ministry to work closely with French counterparts to encourage French investment in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister appreciated the keen interest shown by French companies in sectors that were recently liberalized and committed to work hand-in-hand to realize ongoing investment discussions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ethiopia\">Ethiopia<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Ethiopia.
