{"id":20996,"date":"2023-06-26T11:40:34","date_gmt":"2023-06-26T11:40:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ethiopia\/all-news\/news-update-ethiopia-election-board-chairperson-resigns"},"modified":"2023-06-26T12:55:17","modified_gmt":"2023-06-26T12:55:17","slug":"news-update-ethiopia-election-board-chairperson-resigns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ethiopia\/all-news\/news-update-ethiopia-election-board-chairperson-resigns","title":{"rendered":"News Update: Ethiopia Election Board Chairperson resigns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>Birtukan Mideksa, Chairperson of the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), has resigned from her position citing personal need for \u201ca long-term rest to maintain my health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Birtukan announced her resignation via her Facebook page and said that she has already informed the office of the Speaker of the House of People\u2019s Representatives (HoPR) on 12 June that \u201cI have voluntarily resigned\u201d as the chairperson of the Board effective 07 August, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my remaining time, I will be responsible for completing unfinished tasks and making administrative transitions,\u201d Birtukan said.<\/p>\n<p>A former judge and opposition party leader, she was appointed as Chairperson of the Board when the national parliament approved her nomination by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in November 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI dreamed of making our institution a reliable and independent institution capable of conducting elections,\u201d Birtukan said, and hailed her works done through the Board since as attempts \u201cto carry out the responsibilities given to me by conducting referendums and national elections, and managing political parties in accordance with the legality, fairness and sincerity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Birtukan expressed her \u201cgratitude to all the board members who were with me, the Board staff, especially the hardworking women staff who made my daily work full of inspiration, and all those who made our work easier by sharing their experience as long-term employees of the board with new employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also appreciated political parties, who she said instead of seeing the board \u201cas a manager and a supervisor, considered it a family that works together, even when we made decisions that did not please them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ethiopia\">Ethiopia<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Ethiopia.
