Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>The African Union Chair has expressed condolences over a deadly road accident in Western Kenya that killed more than 50 people.<\/b><\/p>\n

The accident occurred on Friday evening after a driver of a truck carrying a shipping container lost control of the vehicle. Reports say the truck then rammed over six cars and ran over pedestrians.<\/p>\n

Police on Saturday put the death toll from the accident at 52. At least 32 people were also injured.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy prayers and thoughts go to the families affected by the Londiani road tragedy, with wishes for a full recovery to the injured,\u201d AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat said in a tweet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to reiterate our full solidarity with President Williams Ruto, the people and government of Kenya during this difficult time,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The accident is one of the most deadly on Kenya\u2019s roads in recent years. Last year, 34 people died in central Kenya when their bus veered off a bridge and plunged into a river valley.<\/p>\n
