Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>A 16 million USD worth of water supply improvement project that will benefit 150, 000 people in Bahir Dar City was inaugurated today.<\/p>\n

The project was implemented with the financial support obtained from the government of Japan in collaboration with the government of Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

The \u201cProject for Improvement of Water Supply in Bahir Dar City\u201d was implemented by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).<\/p>\n

This project aims to increase the water supply and decrease the number of people who contract water-borne diseases, by constructing well points, pump stations and pipelines.<\/p>\n

Some 150,000 people in Bahir Dar city will be able to use clean water after the completion of this project.<\/p>\n

The project includes the drilling of nine deep water wells, construction of water tankers with a capacity to hold 6.9 million liters of water, and installation of pipe lines, it was indicated.<\/p>\n

The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of various officials including President of the Amhara National Regional State, Dr. Yilkal Kefale, Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide and Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, ITO Takako.<\/p>\n

The Government of Japan has been actively supporting the development of Ethiopia and contributing to the improvement of people\u2019s lives through various schemes, particularly in the fields of agriculture, infrastructure, industry, education and health, according to the Japanese Embassy in Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n

Japan will continue to support Ethiopia\u2019s development efforts through various Japanese Assistance Projects as well as through other modalities of assistance, it indicated.<\/p>\n
