Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>The Information Network Security Administration (INSA) stated that it has thwarted 6,768 cyber-attack attempts carried out against Ethiopia in the concluded Ethiopian Fiscal Year.<\/p>\n

The Information Network Security Administration was also able to save 23.2 billion Birr for the country by mitigating these attacks.<\/p>\n

During his presser about the annual performance today, INSA Director-General Solomon Soka stated that 6,959 attempts of cyber-attacks were made against Ethiopia in the past year.<\/p>\n

Out of these total 6,959 attempts, INSA thwarted 6,768 cyber-attacks and the remaining 191 were successful, Solomon explained.<\/p>\n

This way, he elaborated, INSA was able to save Ethiopia from 23.2 billion Birr worth damage.<\/p>\n

According to him, financial institutions, security institutions, media, health and higher education institutions, ministries and regional offices were among the targets of the cyber-attacks.<\/p>\n

The types of cyber-attacks that have been widely attempted include service interruption and penetration on infrastructures as well as website attacks, he pointed out.<\/p>\n

INSA has also been carrying out fruitful work focusing on three selected sectors based on risk and vulnerability, namely the media, security and infrastructures administering institutions, Solomon pointed out.<\/p>\n

The administration has protected the country from damages that would have otherwise been caused by avoiding attacks and dangerous security threats.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, INSA has saved 23.2 billion birr by preventing the cyber-attacks on the country.<\/p>\n

The director general assured that the Information Network Security Administration will continue to work with partners to ensure digital sovereignty of the country.<\/p>\n

He further explained that if the attempted cyber attacks were successful they would have caused disruption of infrastructures, services delivery, and income that harm the country.<\/p>\n
