Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>President Sahle-Work Zewde received Director-General of UN International Organization of Migration (IOM) Amy E. Pope.<\/p>\n

The director general said Ethiopia is the first country she visited since she took office recently because it is the seat of African Union and that the country can be a key partner.<\/p>\n

The President emphasized that efforts need to be redoubled in assisting the 4 million displaced persons.<\/p>\n

She also informed the director general about Ethiopia\u2019s plan to organize a regional ministerial meeting on migration.<\/p>\n

Before joining IOM, Pope served as the Senior Advisor on Migration to US President Joe Biden and served as the Deputy Homeland Security Advisor to President Obama.<\/p>\n

While working at the White House, she developed and implemented comprehensive strategies to address migration, in areas such as countering trafficking in persons, resettling refugees and vulnerable people, and preparing communities to respond and adapt to climate-related crises.<\/p>\n

Pope who assumed the duties of Director General for a five-year term beginning from 1 October 2023.<\/p>\n

Pope is in Addis Ababa for a working visit and she held several discussions with government officials.<\/p>\n
