Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>The Council of Ministers has approved 3 bills aimed at boosting the country’s digital economy, improving land management, and establishing special economic zones.<\/p>\n

The first draft bill focuses on personal data protection as the country lacks a comprehensive legal framework safeguarding individual rights regarding their personal information. The draft bill would bring the country in line with international data protection standards and build trust in the digital economy. After extensive discussion, the Council unanimously referred it to the House of People’s Representatives for approval.<\/p>\n

The second draft bill addresses rural land management and usage. It seeks to strengthen tenure security for farmers, semi-pastoralists and pastoralists by establishing a sustainable land registration system attuned to the country’s diverse ecological regions. Following an extensive discussion, the Council enriched the bill and referred it to the House of People’s Representatives.<\/p>\n

Finally, the Council discussed about transforming the current industrial park system into a special economic zone system in order to accelerate economic growth. The bill provides guidelines for establishing and managing special economic zones in strategic areas to improve the country’s competitiveness and integration in regional and international trade networks. After deliberation, the Council also referred it to the House of People’s Representatives.<\/p>\n

The three approved bills underscore the Council’s commitment to spurring economic development through digital transformation, improved land management, and strategic trade integration.<\/p>\n
