Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>The government of Ethiopia has distributed humanitarian assistance to 7.3 million people over the past three months.<\/p>\n

Speaking to ENA, National Disaster Risk Management Commissioner Shiferaw Telekemariam stated that close to 8 billion Birr worth of humanitarian assistance reached those who were in need.<\/p>\n

The commissioner said that the humanitarian supplies were delivered to people in drought-affected areas as well as to more than half a million people who have been affected by the unprecedented floods in seven regions of the country.<\/p>\n

Ethiopia has witnessed drought, especially in the Amhara, Tigray Afar, and other regions, during the past three months as a result of continued climate-induced effects.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn total, we invested about 7.9 billion Birr to address those who are in need. What it means is that the government is always there to attend and, at the same time, to address the challenges of its citizens in whatever conditions and circumstances may arise,\u201d the commissioner noted.<\/p>\n

According to the crisis management based on the seasonal figures, there are about 7.3 million beneficiaries in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn two rounds, we mobilized a total of 6.4 billion Birr equivalent of grain and other food items. And also 1.5 billion Birr through the World Bank, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Finance mechanisms to reach the Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP) Woredas to 3.6 million beneficiaries.\u201d<\/p>\n

The beneficiaries are desegregated with priority in that the first ones are those internally displaced persons (IDPs), with a total number of 4.2 million both at the site and at the community level.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Shiferaw said that those victims affected by climate induced impact are also prioritized for the humanitarian supplying endeavors.<\/p>\n
