Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>The Regional Representative Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, East Africa Regional Office (OHCHR-EARO) called on stakeholders to support Ethiopia in implementing its comprehensive national policy on transitional justice and national dialogue process.<\/p>\n

The 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was commemorated in Addis Ababa today.<\/p>\n

Regional Representative of Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, East Africa Regional Office, Marcel Akpovo urged stakeholders to collaborate in its efforts to support the government of Ethiopia on implementation of human right agenda for a people of Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Ethiopia is on its path towards peace, accountability and reconciliation in line with the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement signed last year, including the development of two comprehensive national policy on transitional justice and national dialogue process, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reminds us that the greater respect for human right is the only foundation for more sustainable peace and development.”<\/p>\n

Chief Commissioner of Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, Daniel Bekele expressed his optimism of human rights issues in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe national justice and national dialogue process hold the potential to end cycle of conflict violence as well as building sustainable peace alongside socioeconomic development for Ethiopia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He stressed that national justice and national dialogue are the only vehicle to get out of conflicts and challenges of human rights in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

EHRC remains committed to support the two agenda and calls upon international and national partners to continue their invaluable support to these two important process and initiatives, he said.<\/p>\n

EU Ambassador to Ethiopia, Roland Kobia said that the EU and member states have extensively supporting the human rights in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

We support government institutions, the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, and OHCHR and many organizations., he added.<\/p>\n

President of Federal Supreme Court Tedodros Mihiret on his part said marking this anniversary offers an opportunity to renew our pledge for recognition and enforcement of these rights with vigor and commitment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is my hope that we can create a better world which signifies life for human beings whose fundamental rights are respected, where conflicts which leads to mass violation of rights of person will be significantly reduced in a same manner as the drafter of the declaration envisioned 75 years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

December 10 marks the 75th anniversary of one of the world’s most ground breaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).<\/p>\n

UDH was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 and sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.<\/p>\n
