Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has commended the outgoing Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen for his over three decades of leadership contribution to his country.<\/p>\n

The former deputy prime minister and foreign affairs minister served his country in different positions for about 32 years.<\/p>\n

Demeke has served the country as deputy prime minister for the last 12 years, it was learned.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed presented the appointment of Temesgen Tiruneh as a new Deputy Prime Minister and two other ministerial positions to the House of Peoples’ Representatives today.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the outgoing deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Abiy said that Demeke handed over his position within the Prosperity Party (PP) and government in accordance with the succession plan of PP.<\/p>\n

The prime minister extended his gratitude to Demeke on behalf of his government for his immense contributions during his tenure.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Abiy also pledged to exploit the potential and knowledge of people from any competing political party as long as they can serve their country, adding that \u201cwe will continue to work together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Early this morning, the House of Peoples’ Representatives in its 15th regular session approved the appointments of Ambassador Taye Atske Selassie as well as Mekdes Daba as Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Health respectively following the submission of the prime minister.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed appointed today Redwan Hussein as the Director General of National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS).<\/p>\n

Abiy also assigned Tigist Hamid to head Information Network Security Administration (INSA).<\/p>\n
