Africa-Press<\/a> – Ethiopia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>March 11\/2021(ENA) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen and African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat have discussed the modalities of engagement of the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights (ACHPR) in the investigation of alleged human rights violations in Tigray region today.<\/p>\n

According to a statement issued by the commission, it has welcomed the readiness of Ethiopian Government to cooperate with the African Union\u2019s Treaty Body.<\/p>\n

During the occasion, the two sides discussed the modalities of engagement of ACHPR in the investigation of alleged human rights violations in Tigray region of Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

The principle of the investigation was proposed by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during a Summit-level meeting of AU Peace and Security Council held on 9 March 2021, it was learned.<\/p>\n

Chairperson Mahamat expressed his appreciation to the Government of Ethiopia for its openness to engage with the African Union and stated his confidence that the ACHPR will deliver on this important task.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
