Africa-Press – Ethiopia. <\/strong><\/span>Ethiopia\u2019s National Rehabilitation Commission disclosed that more than 56,000 former combatants have been demobilized and successfully reinserted into their communities across four regions to date.<\/p>\n

over 45,000 of the combatants from Tigray region of Ethiopia, it was indicated.<\/p>\n

National Rehabilitation Commission convened its regular Program Implementation Review Meeting with the DDR Partners Task Force today.<\/p>\n

Ethiopia is actively engaged in a comprehensive demobilization and reintegration (DDR) program for ex-combatants, aiming to transition them back into civilian life. This program, managed by the National Rehabilitation Commission, is a key component of the country’s peace process and aims to ensure durable peace.<\/p>\n

The program involves the formal discharge of combatants, providing them with financial, medical, and mental health support to facilitate their reintegration into society.<\/p>\n

In a social media post, Commissioner of National Rehabilitation Commission, Temesgen Tilahun stated that the demobilization and reintegration achievement represents a major milestone in the implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) and a critical step forward in our collective pursuit of lasting peace and stability in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

Across all regions, coordinated and sustained efforts continue among all relevant stakeholders to support the social and economic reintegration of former combatants, he pointed out.<\/p>\n

The commissioner added: \u201cWith ongoing partnership and unwavering commitment, we look forward to the successful completion of Phase One of the program in Tigray within the next two months.\u201d<\/p>\n
