Africa-Press<\/a> – Ethiopia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>May 11\/2021(ENA) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen had a discussion on Monday with the U.S. special envoy to the Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman on ways to cementing relationships between the two countries.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke noted the longstanding relationship between the two countries and underscored the need to further cement it.<\/p>\n

The special envoy said Ethiopia is a strategic partner of the United States and his country would like to work with the former on peace and security issues.<\/p>\n

Discussing the situation in Tigray, the Deputy Prime Minister explained the humanitarian and rehabilitation efforts that the government has been undertaking so far.<\/p>\n

The two officials also discussed issues related to the tripartite talks over the GERD and the Ethiopia-Sudan border dispute where Demeke reiterated Ethiopia\u2019s commitment to peacefully solve the matters.<\/p>\n

In this regard, Feltman expressed his country\u2019s unwavering commitment to support efforts that aimed to bring amicable solutions to the parties involved in the GERD negotiations.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the upcoming elections, the Deputy Prime Minister said the government is committed to make it free, fair and peaceful.<\/p>\n

The GERD negotiations and the Ethiopia-Sudan border dispute would get amicable solutions to all involved parties.<\/p>\n

According to Ministry of Foreign Affaires, the two sides concluded their discussion in a spirit of common understanding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
