Pirang Ex-Students Association; a group of former students in Pirang, Kombo East have launched a new initiative that targets fencing the perimeter of the community’s Lower Basic, Upper and Senior Secondary schools.

Last Friday, the association delivered 15, 000 dalasis, 20 bags of cement and some wheels of sand to the community’s development committee that they raised towards the implementation of the fencing project.

The Association’s IPRO Ousman Bajinka said they started the initiative to contribute to the development of the community, not only on education but also other important aspects. “It should not be only the ex-students initiative but everyone should endeavour to participate in the development of the community.”

Mr. Bajinka said as a community, every member has a mandate to contribute and participate in the development that can be their legacy in years to come.

President Alieu Touray said the Association started some 10 years ago with series of activities conducted, including extra moral classes for upper and senior secondary students and provide past GABECE question papers to students and closely works with the school administration.

Mr. Touray said the school fencing project came when the school administration pleaded that they badly needed support to mend the broken fences and they realised the appeal as genuine. “People later started to give pledges and thank God we were able to accrue some fund from that.”

Village Development Committee chairperson Baba Bojang commended the Association for the initiative and promised that his committee will effectively and transparently execute the implementation of the project.

Maline Touray, Alkalo of Pirang Berending and Morro Bojang, Alkalo of main Pirang both commended the Association for the initiative.

School Management Committee chairman Borry Njie and headmaster of Pirang lower basic school Sarjo Manneh also commended the community’s former students for the initiative, saying it was worthy course.
