Ding-Ding Yiriwa Federation, a local partner to ChildFund International-The Gambia recently presented over 40 sets of hand washing sanitary materials to 12 Early Childhood Education (ECD) schools within Kombo North and South districts.

The materials, which included packets of hand soaps, sanitisers, buckets, and water containers, are designed to prevent possible local transmission amid the second wave of the corona virus among nursery children under its sponsorship.

Presenting the items, Alieu Mendy, manager of the Federation indicated that since the outbreak of the pandemic, his institution had spent over 4 million dalasis on various economic and health bailout initiatives.

This, he added, includes cash transfers to families, provision of exercise books and distributing facemasks to over 300 families.

“We know how the pandemic is still affecting families both economically and health wise. So this why we decided to provide these hand washing materials to children of kindergarten.” he said.

Binta Sey-Jadama, coordinator of National Disaster Management Agency of West Coast Region urged people to be more cautious of the pandemic, reminding that the virus is still in existence.

“We have to be aware that Covid-19 pandemic is still in existence and we must adhere to guidelines recommended by the World Health Organization and Ministry of Health.

He added; “It is very important that we realise that Disaster Risk Reduction first starts with the children and I’m glad that they are benefiting from the federation’s intervention.”
