Africa-Press – Gambia. Former President Yahya Jammeh hired and fired 25 secretaries general and heads of the civil service in 22 years while his predecessor Sir Dawda Jawara hired three SGs in 30 years, said the executive director of Sahel Investment Mr. Abdoulie BaksTouray.
Mr. Touray made this disclosure at the GPA’s stakeholder consultative forum held at the Authority’s training hall on Tuesday.
“I could remember Jammeh hired 25 secretary generals while Jawara hired only three,” Mr. Touray said as the discussionstilted towards the insecurity of tenure of public servants under Jammeh and how it impinged on institutional development.
According to Mr. Touray, throughout Jawara’s three-decade rule, only Messrs. Lanley, Ndow, and Sara Janha served as SGs.
