Africa-Press – Gambia. The former Press Secretary of Gambia Action Party (GAP) Sheikhna Faal has advised Gambians to vote wisely in the upcoming 2026 Presidential election.
Faal said this in an interview granted to this reporter. According to him, a lot has been said about the inappropriate governance of the country since this government took office.
He says the president as the head of the country should set criteria and take the lead in making sure that malpractices and corruption reported under his regime are addressed.
He stressed that a country could hardly be developed in the face of a high crime rate / high level of corruption, especially for such a small country like The Gambia.
‘’The Gambia is facing a lot of challenges ranging from poor health system, education, high inflation, high cost of living,’’ he observed.
He accused ministers of embezzling public funds while the government didn’t address the situation. He opined that any minister found wanting for corruption should be dealt with without any mercy.
Mr. Faal frowned that Gambia is the only country where people commit crimes or misuse public funds and at the end of the day, no punishment is given to them. “This is the main reason which led to the high increase in corruption,” he observed.
However, he said the mess started from Jammeh’s regime down to Barrow’s government. He advised the citizens to tighten their belts and vote for change in the next elections to avoid worsening the situation as this election would determine the future of the youth of the country.
