Africa-Press – Gambia. The National People’s Party (NPP) issued a press release announcing that His Excellency President Adama Barrow, Secretary-General of the NPP, convened a strategic meeting on Sunday, April 20th, with regional executive committee members from partner parties in Banjul.
The meeting aimed to reinforce the unity of the NPP Alliance and develop a comprehensive strategy for the upcoming 2026 elections. It was presided over by President Barrow and attended by representatives from eight key political parties, including the APRC, NRP, and other coalition members.
According to the press release, discussions at the meeting focused on critical issues affecting The Gambia’s political, social, and economic development. The alliance reaffirmed its collective commitment to national progress and electoral readiness.
Political leaders from the participating parties praised President Barrow’s leadership, with a unified acknowledgment of his administration’s transformative development agenda. “Regional political leaders unanimously praised President Barrow’s visionary leadership and recognized his administration’s substantial contributions to the nation’s growth,” the statement read.
The release highlighted several key achievements under the NPP-led government, including the ambitious nationwide electrification program, which is on track to provide universal electricity access by the end of 2025. The government has also made significant investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and the national road network. Noteworthy civil service reforms, including a 110% salary increase for civil servants over the past seven years, were also highlighted as tangible evidence of President Barrow’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens and enhancing public service delivery.
“Participants also commended President Barrow’s government for its unwavering commitment to democracy, upholding the rule of law, good governance, and protection of citizens’ rights and liberties,” The Statement said.
The statement further highlighted remarks from key figures within the alliance. Seedy Ceesay, NPP Administrative Secretary, underscored that the primary objective of the meeting was to fortify the coalition and craft a winning strategy ahead of the 2026 elections.
Hon. Mai Ahmad Fatty, as noted in the release, urged all coalition partners to consolidate their achievements and unite in support of President Barrow as the alliance’s uncontested presidential candidate for 2026.
Dr. Demba Sabally, NPP First Deputy National President, expressed appreciation for President Barrow’s leadership and called for strengthened regional cooperation among alliance members.
In his closing remarks, as captured in the statement, President Adama Barrow thanked participants for their confidence in his leadership. He reaffirmed his dedication to transforming The Gambia into a modern and prosperous nation, pledging to prioritize universal access to clean water, healthcare, education, energy, and infrastructure.
President Barrow further outlined his administration’s strategic agenda, emphasizing improved service delivery, accelerated infrastructure development, and sustained economic growth to enhance citizens’ welfare. He reiterated his commitment to making The Gambia the first African country to achieve universal electricity access by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
Concluding the meeting, President Barrow urged alliance members to uphold unity, foster consistent dialogue, and collaborate across all levels. He also directed that all future political activities be conducted jointly to promote shared national objectives and ensure collective success in the upcoming elections.
