
Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow on Tuesday received members of the Gambia-France Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) at the State House in Banjul. The courtesy visit was part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation between The Gambia and France.
According to a statement from the Office of the President, the meeting focused on enhancing diplomatic and developmental collaboration between the two nations. Central to the discussions was a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to promote mutual benefits and shared growth.
The statement highlighted that Honourable Lamin J. Sanneh, National Assembly Member for Brikama South, emphasized the visit as a demonstration of mutual commitment to strengthening development partnerships and deepening the enduring relationship between The Gambia and France.
“The Parliamentarian for Brikama South, Honourable Lamin J. Sanneh, explained that this visit is part of ongoing efforts to discuss development-related issues and to enhance the good relations between the two countries,” the statement said.
Leading the French delegation, Honourable Alieu Juwara — Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group — expressed appreciation for the warm reception extended by President Barrow and acknowledged the Government of The Gambia’s efforts in maintaining strong bilateral relations. A French parliamentarian of Senegalese nationality and Gambian heritage, Juwara reiterated his dedication to building bridges between the two countries.
“President Barrow assured the French-Gambia Parliamentary Group of his collaboration. He noted the positive role the French government played during the initial stages of his administration and their ongoing support for ECOMIG, as well as assistance at the multilateral level through the European Union. He mentioned the recently launched WASIB project in Sifoe, which is supported by the French Development Agency,” the statement reads.
In conclusion, President Barrow commended the delegation for maintaining strong ties with their homeland and congratulated Honourable Juwara on his achievements in France, acknowledging his dedication and service in the French Parliament.
“He also congratulated Honourable Juwara on his achievements in France, recognising his hard work and dedication in gaining recognition as a member of the French Parliament,” State House said.
