Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced the disbursement of more than D15 million to support national sports federations and athletes preparing for international competitions.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the ministry detailed allocations to various bodies, with the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) receiving the lion’s share — D10 million — to fund the Scorpions’ training camp in Morocco.
“In a similar effort, D1.8 million was allocated as direct financial assistance to The Gambia’s top five Paris-based athletes, helping cover their training fees and upkeep as they gear up for upcoming global events,” the ministry said.
The statement also noted that the Gambia Volleyball Federation received D800,000 to facilitate its participation in the African Nation’s U21 Beach Volleyball Championship, also to be held in Morocco.
Additional allocations include D500,000 to the United Front in support of the sixth edition of the Banjul International Marathon and D2.3 million to the Tijan Jaiteh Foundation to cover airfare for the national U-16 football team competing in the Norway Cup.
“The Gambia Volleyball Federation also received a boost, with D800,000 granted to facilitate the country’s participation in the African Nation’s U21 Beach Volleyball Championship, also scheduled for Morocco,” the statement said.
Additional allocations include D500,000 to the United Front in support of the sixth edition of the Banjul International Marathon and D2.3 million to the Tijan Jaiteh Foundation to cover airfare for the national U-16 football team competing in the Norway Cup.
