The National Assembly of The Gambia announced via an official Facebook post that Honorable Fa Bakary Tombong Jatta, Speaker of The Gambia’s National Assembly, has arrived in Dakar as the Guest of Honour for the closing ceremony of the 15th Legislature of the Senegalese Parliament.
The closing event is scheduled for Monday, 30 June 2025, during which Speaker Jatta is expected to deliver a keynote address to the Senegalese National Assembly.
The statement emphasized that Speaker Jatta’s visit reflects the strong and enduring relationship between The Gambia and Senegal. His address will highlight the importance of deepening cooperation and fostering stronger bilateral ties between the two neighboring countries.
“Honourable Jatta’s visit underscores the strong ties and shared aspirations between The Gambia and Senegal. His address is anticipated to emphasise the crucial need to further strengthen these bonds, fostering greater cooperation between the two countries,” the statement reads.
Accompanying the Speaker is a high-level delegation, including Mr. Kalipha MM Mbye, Clerk of the National Assembly; Honorable Fatou Cham, Member of Parliament for Sanimentareng; and Mr. Gibairu Janneh, Director of Communications, ICT & Press.
The 15th Legislature of Senegal’s Parliament, which began following elections in November 2024, is now concluding its legislative session, marking a significant milestone in Senegal’s parliamentary calendar. The presence of the Gambian Speaker at this event underscores the respect and importance Senegal accords the Gambia.
The statement further noted that Speaker Jatta’s address is expected to cover key areas of bilateral cooperation, including parliamentary exchanges, trade, security, and regional integration.
