Africa-Press – Gambia. In a speech delivered at the Senegalese National Assembly on Monday, Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, Speaker of The Gambia’s National Assembly, described Senegal and The Gambia as “one family,” united by a shared history, intertwined cultures, common aspirations, and a destiny that cannot be separated.

“To be here today, witnessin g this significant milestone, underscores the strength and depth of this enduring bond between our two nations and, more specifically, between our legislative institutions. It has once more demonstrated that Senegal and The Gambia are not merely neighbours; we are one family, bound by shared history, interwoven cultures, common aspirations, and an inseparable destiny,” he said.

He emphasized the cultural and linguistic ties that transcend geographical borders, stating that the people of both countries share languages, traditions, and a profound understanding that their individual prosperity is closely linked to their collective well-being.

“This deep-seated connection forms the bedrock of our parliamentary diplomacy and informs our every interaction. The National Assembly of The Gambia places immense value on the continuous exchange of insights and experiences with our Senegalese counterparts.”

Speaker Jatta further highlighted the critical role of both countries’ legislative bodies in promoting democratic governance, stressing the importance of sustained collaboration in strengthening legislative practices, enhancing oversight, and upholding principles of good governance.

“Our respective National Assemblies serve as indispensable pillars of democratic governance. It is through sustained and collaborative engagement that we can collectively refine our legislative processes, fortify oversight mechanisms, and champion the principles of good governance, ultimately benefiting the citizens we represent,”

The Gambian Speaker made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the 15th Ordinary Session of Senegal’s National Assembly Legislature.
