Mamadi Kurang Summoned to Testify on Sale of Jammeh’S Assets

Africa-Press – Gambia. The National Assembly’s Special Select Committee has officially summoned Alhaji Mamadi Kurang, former secretary to the Janneh Commission, to testify in its ongoing investigation into the controversial sale and disposal of assets linked to former President Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh.

A copy of the summons, dated 3 July 2025 and seen, directs Kurang to appear before the committee on 16 July 2025 at 11:00 AM at the National Assembly Building in Banjul. The investigation follows revelations by the Commission of Inquiry into the Financial Activities of Public Bodies, Enterprises, and Offices, which flagged serious irregularities in the handling of assets acquired during Jammeh’s presidency.

“You are hereby summoned to testify all that you know on the subject matter of the inquiry,” the document stated.

Kurang, who served in a key administrative role during the Janneh Commission, is believed to hold vital information concerning the sale and management of assets associated with Jammeh and his close associates during his tenure with the commission. The summons explicitly warns that failure to appear or withhold relevant information may constitute contempt of the National Assembly, a grave offense under Gambian law.

The Special Select Committee was established on 14 May 2025 to investigate the contentious sale of assets acquired by former President Yahya Jammeh during his rule from 1994 to 2017.

While Kurang has not yet issued a public response to the latest summons, he has previously expressed his readiness to cooperate with any official inquiry related to the Jammeh assets.
