Africa-Press – Gambia. The governments of The Gambia and Mauritania have signed fourteen agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering a broad range of sectors, including trade, energy and petroleum, mining, fisheries and aquaculture, water resources, education, youth and sports, and livestock.

The agreements were concluded during the Sixth Session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation between the two countries, held in Nouakchott from June 26 to 27, 2025, according to a statement issued by The Gambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The high-level meeting served as an opportunity to review the implementation of recommendations from the previous session held in May 2012, and to explore new avenues for enhanced collaboration.

“It is worth noting that the proceedings of this session took place in an atmosphere of friendship and brotherhood,” the ministry said in its statement.

According to the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the session was co-chaired by The Gambia’s Vice President, Mohammed B.S. Jallow, and Mauritania’s Prime Minister, El Moctar Ould Djay.

Prime Minister Ould Djay reaffirmed the strong and longstanding ties between the two countries, which he described as rooted in friendship and brotherhood. He underscored the close alignment between the two heads of state, citing President Adama Barrow’s recent state visit to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania from January 8 to 9, 2024, as a clear demonstration of their shared vision.

Expressing optimism about the outcomes of the commission, Prime Minister Ould Djay voiced hope that the sixth session would serve to identify practical avenues for deepening bilateral cooperation in accordance with the directives and aspirations of both leaders.

The statement further noted that Vice President Jallow expressed profound appreciation to the Mauritanian government for the warm hospitality and generous support extended to him and his delegation throughout their visit.
