Africa-Press – Gambia. Berewuleng FC sealed a historic end to the season after beating Red Scorpions 2-0 in the Gambia Football Federation FF Cup final on Sunday at the Brikama Boxba Mini Stadium.
The team will participate in the CAF competition for the first time in the club’s history.
Berewuleng FC, winners of the Gambia Football Federation Women’s Division One, added another coveted trophy to their cabinet, denying perennial winners Red Scorpions FC both trophies this season.
Ellen Gomez opened the scoring for Berewuleng in the 70th minute, with star player Kaddijatou Drammeh providing a beautiful assist from a free kick.
Berewuleng doubled their lead through Ma Fanta Drammeh eight minutes before the end of regulation time, sealing a comfortable win for the double champions. The team was awarded a prestigious trophy and a cash prize of D250,000.
Speaking to the media in a post-match engagement, Fakebba Saine, head coach of Berewuleng, said his team is always committed to triumphing in competitions, adding that winning trophies has been their main target since the team’s formation.
“We have achieved our aim and objective. It’s not a miracle to beat Red Scorpions. I always tell my players that playing against Red Scorpions is not easy. But what makes it easier is the plan you have against them,” he explained.
He pointed out that some things were not working well in the first half and that he had to adjust tactics during the break. “That’s what we did in the second half and then tried to score these two goals from three set pieces,” he added.
