Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow on Monday, 15 July 2025, conducted an inspection of laboratory equipment valued at over $2 million, aimed at enhancing science and technical education in The Gambia.
The consignment, funded by the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development, forms part of a broader $16 million education support package to upgrade and expand 39 senior secondary and upper basic schools nationwide. The initiative is being implemented through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE).
The new laboratory supplies include state-of-the-art equipment for physics, chemistry, biology, home science, woodwork, metalwork, and technical drawing. The direct beneficiaries are 26 senior secondary schools and 3 basic cycle schools across the country.
During the inspection, President Barrow reiterated his administration’s commitment to broadening access to quality and relevant education throughout the country. He also praised the partnership with the Kuwaiti Fund, highlighting its importance in advancing The Gambia’s educational development.
Accompanying the president was Habibatou Drammeh, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, who emphasized the critical role of this support in addressing long-standing gaps in technical education.
“This is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to strengthening technical education in the country,” Minister Drammeh said. She added that the goal is to ensure students receive both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in their schools.
The minister acknowledged the challenges faced in delivering technical education and expressed gratitude for the invaluable support. The equipment will be distributed to the targeted schools across the country.
”The Kuwaiti Fund support marks a milestone in The Gambia’s efforts to transform its education sector and prepare its youth for a competitive future driven by science, innovation, and skills development,” the ministry stated.
