Africa-Press – Gambia. United Democratic Party’s spokesperson for North Bank, Karamo Njie, has described critics of President Adama Barrow’s government as patriotic citizens who are yearning to see a better Gambia.
Njie made the remarks during an interview granted on Tuesday at his residence in Bundung. This follows President Barrow’s comment that people who are trying to stop his third term bid are not visible in politics.
Njie says these young people are good citizens of The Gambia who want to see a change of government in 2026, adding that President Barrow surrounded himself with his 2016 enemies.
“Yes, those who distanced themselves from UDP before 2016 are now with us because they want an end to bad governance. They want to end corruption. They want to end mismanagement of public funds,” he noted. “They want to see an improvement in medical, agricultural educational and economic sectors. Who surrounded him (Barrow) now? These are people who never wanted him to be president of the country. They called him all sorts of ugly names. Doesn’t he embrace and give them positions in his government?” Njie added.
He questioned the motive of appraisal for the construction of Niumi “Hakalang Road,” arguing that the expenses were met by Gambian taxpayers, saying, “Why should he be praised for something mandatory of him?”
Njie added that Barrow should desist from claiming that he had achieved more developments than the past two regimes of Jawara and Jammeh. According to him, this current administration is unable to address pressing national concerns of price hikes, insecurity, corruption and mismanagement of the country’s resources among other things.
Njie advised community leaders to abstain from actions that give “cheap popularity” to the president. He maintained that Barrow’s administration can’t survive 2026 presidential election, stating that citizens are discontented with the regime.
