Minister Bouy Inaugurates NRS Advisory Committee

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Minister of Public Service on Wednesday July 23, 2025 presided over the inaugural ceremony of the newly reconstituted NRS committee held at its conference room along Kanifing Industrial Development Area.

Honorable Baboucarr Bouy in his inaugural statement urged the newly reconstituted National Records Service (NRS) management committee to provide the strategic leadership and policy direction required to revitalize the records management system in the public service.

This records management system he added, includes the implementation of the Electronic Records and Document Management System (ERDMS), compliance with legal standards and the preservation of archival heritage.

“The ultimate goal is to move away from paper-based records management system to a fully digitalized system. One of the roles of the committee is to contribute immensely towards the realization of this goal,” Minister Bouy explained.

The Chairman of the committee who double as the Permanent Secretary at the Personnel Management Office (PMO), Lamin F. Jawara described the committee as an important committee.

“As a government, we heavily rely on record services to store, dispatch and receive information on daily bases. You get information from NRS archive as back in the second Republic,” said Chairman Jawara.

He thanked the former Director at NRS, Ms. Elizabeth J.P. Bahoum for her dedication to her work during her tenue as the director and expressed the same sentiment to both the NRS present and past staff for their dedication to their duties at all times.

Director, National Record Services, Mr. Bartholomew Marong

said the reconstitution of the Committee comes at a critical time in NRS history, where the effective management of records is no longer just an administrative function, but a strategic imperative.

As a country striving for excellence in governance Director Marong added, service delivery, and digital transformation, the role of records cannot be overstated.

“I am confident that your collective wisdom, experience, and commitment will provide the much-needed guidance and leadership to elevate the National Records Service to a new heights,” Mr. Marong concludes.
