Africa-Press – Gambia. The inaugural ECOWAS Journalism Award on Friday in Bijilo hosted the finest personalities in journalism across the region for their contribution to the media.
Gambians’ proud son of the soil Sankulleh Janko, in an unbeatable record was this year crown radio reporter of the year.
In an emotional appreciation to the host, noted that “To win the maiden ECOWAS Excellence Award in the radio category means a lot. It will be part of my legacy, and I hope it means something for Gambian journalism too,”
Sankulleh Janko has won various award and recognition for his work, presented with title of Gambia Press Union’s Radio Journalist of the Year in 2018, and Foreign Media Correspondent of the Year 2018. In 2022, he swept the Migration Reporting Awards for West and Central Africa, claiming first, second and third prizes.
Janko an alumina of the University of The Gambia urged young reporters to stay grounded. “Don’t join this trade for fame, be focused and determined. If you have passion for it, do the job. You don’t need to chase the clouds good work will speak for itself.”
