Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambian delegation joined thousands in the opening ceremony of the inaugural African School Games currently underway in Algeria.
The country’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony was Serreh Sanneh, an athletics competitor who will represent The Gambia in the sprint events and long jump.
The Gambian 3×3 basketball team is set to face off against Libya and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the maiden African School Games in Algeria.
According to team delegates, the squad is in good shape and ready to compete against top teams. The basketball games commence on Sunday, July 27.
In another development, The Gambia’s beach volleyball teams confirmed their opponents following the drawing of lots.
The male team will face Comoros, Benin, and São Tomé in Pool B, while the female team will take on Tunisia, Ghana, and Benin, also in Pool B.
The Gambian beach volleyball teams are scheduled to play on Sunday afternoon in Skikda to open their accounts in the event.
The women’s team of Sambou and Njie will face familiar opponents from Ghana at 5 p.m. local time in Pool B.
Meanwhile, Amadou Jarju’s pair, Kanyi and Bah, will compete against Benin at the same time in Skikda.
