Senegalese Military Delegation Reviews ECOMIG Troop Conditions

Africa-Press – Gambia. A high-level delegation from the Senegalese Armed Forces, led by Lieutenant General Philip Henri Alfred Dia, Inspector General of the Senegalese Armed Forces, has visited The Gambia to assess the welfare and operational readiness of Senegalese troops serving under the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), the Office of the Vice President has announced.

The delegation was received at the State House by Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow, where discussions focused on the status and well-being of the Senegalese contingent as well as their contributions to maintaining peace and stability in the region. Vice President Jallow commended Senegal for its steadfast support of The Gambia and highlighted the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.

Lieutenant General Dia explained that the mission, mandated by the Senegalese President, was to conduct an official inspection of Senegalese ECOMIG personnel and the Defence Attaché at the Senegalese Embassy in Banjul. He emphasized the importance of engaging Gambian authorities to review troop performance, identify operational challenges, and explore measures to enhance effectiveness.

“We are also here to understand their challenges and work together to find meaningful solutions, all for the benefit of both The Gambia and Senegal.” He said.

General Dia expressed satisfaction with the professionalism, discipline, and experience demonstrated by the Senegalese forces deployed in The Gambia.
