Africa-Press – Gambia. The newly constituted Governing Council and Advisory Committee of the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) has paid a courtesy call on the Chief Justice of The Gambia, Hassan B. Jallow, as part of its post-inauguration engagement strategy.

Led by Hon. Justice Solomy Bossa of the International Criminal Court and Chairperson of the ACDHRS Governing Council, the delegation visited the Chief Justice on Monday, 28 July 2025, to reaffirm its longstanding relationship with the judiciary and explore new areas of collaboration.

Justice Bossa commended the Chief Justice for his pivotal role in founding the centre and serving as its first Chairperson, noting the importance of continued judicial independence and civic cooperation in safeguarding rights and democracy.

Chief Justice Jallow welcomed the delegation and praised the Centre’s contributions to justice and civic awareness across the continent.

“The Centre has grown into a premier human rights institution,” he said. “It has consistently championed social justice, raised awareness on fundamental rights, and helped shape civic dialogue through its community-driven programs.”

ACDHRS Executive Director Hannah Forster outlined several ongoing initiatives, including upcoming trainings for human rights defenders across Africa. She said the new Governing Council reflects strong regional representation and expertise that will further strengthen the Centre’s mission.

The delegation included Mr. Mohamed Mabassa Fall (Vice Chairperson, Francophone West Africa), Mr. Femi Falana (Anglophone West Africa), Mrs. Teneng Jaiteh (The Gambia), Mr. Sadikh Niass (Francophone West Africa), Mr. Abdelbagi Jibril (Continental), and Mrs. Forster.
