Africa-Press – Gambia. The United Democratic Party (UDP) has raised more than $111,000 at its second Diaspora Convention held on Saturday, 2nd August 2025, in Seattle, Washington State, USA.
According to a statement issued by the UDP Media Team, the high-profile event drew party supporters from across North America and featured strong calls for unity and political readiness ahead of The Gambia’s 2026 presidential elections.
The party’s leader and Secretary General, Lawyer Ousainu Darboe, led the delegation from The Gambia, accompanied by the Mayor of Kanifing Municipality, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, and Landing B. Sanneh, Chairman of the Mansakonko Area Council.
The Seattle gathering, described by organizers as both a political rally and a major fundraising effort, succeeded in mobilizing significant moral and financial support. “Over $111,000 was raised in contributions and pledges by diaspora members and supporters,” the statement confirmed.
Lawyer Darboe, addressing attendees, commended the UDP Diaspora for what he described as their unwavering commitment to democratic progress. “Your support is not only appreciated it is inspiring,” he said. “This sends a strong message that the UDP is not only a national force but a global movement for change.”
Mayor Bensouda and Chairman Sanneh echoed similar sentiments, urging supporters to stay engaged as the party intensifies its campaign efforts. “The energy and organizational strength of the diaspora is key to our strategy for 2026,” they both noted.
A party official quoted in the statement added that the Seattle event is part of a broader fundraising strategy. “This is just one of several events planned both abroad and at home,” the official said, noting that proceeds will support campaign logistics, operations, and grassroots outreach.
The UDP Media Team described the convention as “a pivotal moment” for the party, demonstrating not only financial capacity but also widespread confidence in the UDP’s leadership and vision.
With less than two years to the next national vote, the party reaffirmed its commitment to presenting a united front and building a more inclusive and democratic Gambia.
