UDP Threatens Legal Action against Seedy Njie over Militia Allegations

Africa-Press – Gambia. The United Democratic Party (UDP) has announced plans to initiate legal proceedings against Presidential Adviser Seedy Njie, demanding that he provide evidence to substantiate his recent allegations that the party operates a militia in The Gambia.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, presided over by Deputy Party Leader Aja Yam Secka, UDP officials condemned Njie’s remarks as “dishonorable and baseless,” arguing that they were intended to tarnish the party’s reputation.

Lamin Manneh, the UDP’s Deputy Secretary of External Affairs, firmly rejected the accusations and warned that Njie would be required to defend them in court: “We are going to sue him in court to come up with evidence that we have militia in this country,” Manneh stated. “Who does Seedy Njie think he is? We all live here. Any militia in this country, there is nowhere to hide it, and if UDP had a militia in this country, Seedy Njie and co. would have been very happy because then they would have arrested those people and banned UDP for having set up a militia in this country.”

Manneh further argued that Njie’s statements would be grounds for dismissal in other countries, describing them as an affront to public service standards. He also dismissed longstanding accusations of tribalism against the UDP, noting that the party embraces all ethnic groups and is committed to national unity.

“UDP is trying to build a nation of Gambians, not a conglomeration of tribes, and that is what Barrow and NPP are trying to do. To build a conglomeration of tribes, inviting different ethnic groups to the statehouse respectively,” he stated.

The UDP official stressed that while ethnic identity is significant to individuals, it should serve as a source of mutual respect rather than division.

In a direct warning to Njie, Manneh concluded, “So, Seedy Njie, we have you in our sights. We are watching you. We are not coming after you with physical violence. No, but we will watch you, and we will follow you, and we will sue you all the way,” he added.
