Three Gambian Women Win Africa Travel Awards

Africa-Press – Gambia. In recognition of their outstanding contributions to the tourism industry in The Gambia, across Africa, and globally, three Gambian women entrepreneurs have been named among the winners of the prestigious Africa Travel 100 Women Awards 2024/2025.

The awards are part of the renowned Akwaaba African Travel Market, an annual event set to take place from September 14 to 16, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria. The event is hosted by Atqnews in partnership with the Akwaaba African Travel Market and serves as one of the biggest platforms celebrating excellence in African tourism.

The Gambian honourees include Fumeke Mary Sarr, a seasoned hotel consultant and Associate Director at Shukran Capital, Oumie Sise-Sallah, General Manager of Discovery Tours, Binta Jobe, General Manager of Baobab Concierge Services, and Country Manager of Fordeverein Humanitas (FVH).

In a congratulatory statement, Ambassador Ikechi Uko, publisher of African Travel Quarterly Magazine and founder of the Akwaaba African Travel Market, emphasized the prestige of the award. He noted that nominees must be of African descent, either from the continent or the diaspora, and must have significantly influenced tourism through events, heritage sites, ideas, or leadership. Additionally, they must have been active in the tourism industry for at least 10 years and can only be nominated by past winners, underscoring the high bar for selection.

“These awards are a testament to your exceptional contribution to the development and promotion of tourism in Africa,” said Ambassador Uko.

The three Gambian winners will join fellow honourees from across the continent in Lagos to officially receive their awards during the three-day event, which is the largest travel expo in West Africa.

The 2025 edition of the Akwaaba African Travel Market will also feature key highlights such as the African Food Fair, Medical Tourism Expo, Africa Youth Tourism Bantaba, Wonders of Nigeria Expo, and the Aviation and Cargo Conference, creating opportunities for networking, celebration, and promoting innovation in the African tourism industry.
