Africa-Press – Gambia. The Deputy Spokesperson of the National People’s Party (NPP), Seedy SK Njie, has appealed to Auditor General Modou Ceesay to reconsider his stance and accept his recent appointment as Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment.

“I urge Mr. Ceesay to honor the commitment he made to H.E. the President, when accepting the offer, and honor this noble trust placed in him by none other than the President of the Republic and, by extension, the Gambian people,” Njie said. “Accepting such a responsibility goes beyond the individual; it is a service to the nation and an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in the country’s economic transformation.”

Njie stressed that the Trade Ministry plays a pivotal role in shaping the country’s economic future and requires strong leadership at a critical juncture. He described Ceesay’s appointment as a reflection of President Adama Barrow’s vision of entrusting key national leadership roles to Gambians with proven competence and integrity.

“The appointment of Mr. Modou Ceesay, Auditor General of The Gambia, as Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration & Employment should be seen as a reflection of H.E. President Adama Barrow’s vision to entrust critical national leadership positions to Gambians of proven competence and integrity,” Njie stated.

He further noted that the President’s decision was made following due consultation, during which Ceesay had accepted the call to serve, leading to the public announcement of his appointment.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Trade stands at the core of the nation’s economic transformation and future prosperity, requiring visionary leadership to design and implement modern, forward-looking trade policies, stimulate industrial growth, strengthen regional integration, and expand employment opportunities for Gambians.

“With his proven record in accountability, reforms, and governance, Mr. Ceesay is exceptionally well-positioned to drive this agenda and steer the ministry toward delivering lasting impact for our country,” he added.

He also extended congratulations to the newly appointed Auditor General, Cherno Amadou Sowe, wishing him success in his new role. “And I wish him all the best in his new assignment,” he said.
