President Barrow Calls for Global Solidarity with Ambassadors

Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow on Friday underscored the importance of global solidarity, diplomacy, and cooperation in tackling today’s most pressing international challenges. He made the remarks at the State House during a ceremony marking the official accreditation of five new ambassadors to the Republic of The Gambia.

The newly accredited envoys are:

His Excellency Mr. Hyuk-woon Kwon, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea

His Excellency Mr. Baboucar Biro Diallo, Ambassador of the Republic of Mali

His Excellency Mr. Pietro Mona, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation

His Excellency Mr. Ridha Nebais, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria

His Excellency Mr. Ali Sylla, Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia

President Barrow noted that the envoys are assuming their diplomatic responsibilities at a critical juncture, as the world contends with overlapping crises, including climate change, environmental degradation, health emergencies, geopolitical tensions, and economic uncertainty.

“The Gambia therefore, reiterates its firm commitment to international peace and security, sustainable development goals, and the principles of the United Nations Charter,” President Barrow stated.

He described the ceremony as both a reaffirmation of long-standing diplomatic ties and a renewed pledge to advance shared objectives of peace, mutual respect, and prosperity. “I wish to reaffirm my government’s readiness to strengthen our bilateral and multilateral relations. We are determined to pursue closer collaboration in areas of mutual benefit, including economic cooperation, capacity-building, trade and investment, education, agriculture, and cultural exchange.”

The presentation of letters of credence is a foundational diplomatic tradition, formally marking the beginning of an ambassador’s service and the start of enhanced bilateral relations between countries.
